Quarantine Compilation

Stores are opening. Restaurants are opening. It seems life as we once knew it is slowly opening again. I also believe minds are opening and hearts are opening. We humans are funny creatures. On one hand, we spend the majority of our time and energy trying to maintain equilibrium. On the other hand, life outside our equilibrium is what has enabled our species to progress this far.

When an equilibrium has reached the end of its cycle, it requires a jolt to shift. Like dislodging a pinball with a concentrated hip thrust. Amidst all the posts about the horrors of 2020 and longings for a do-over, I hold a different view. I believe 2020 was needed. In many ways we were asleep on the couch, not realizing how dirty it was. Then 2020 comes along, smacks a cushion, and reveals a giant cloud of dust. Forcing us to admit the couch needs cleaning.

2020 has revealed so much to me. It has revealed just how powerful technology is in enabling us to communicate globally and connect over video. It has revealed how creative we are as humans in finding new solutions that will long outlive COVID-19. It has revealed how pervasive systemic racism still is and how white privilege blinded me. It has revealed that time and space are necessary to connect with your purpose. What has it revealed to you?

Now, I hope you’ll join me in cleaning the couch.
